Born and raised in Hungary, Tamas Bojtor received his graduate degree in architecture in 1991. After working as an architect for several years, he moved to Denmark to attend film school. Upon finishing his studies he returned to Hungary, where he worked as both a director of photography and editor for Pilot Productions, a London/Budapest-based company. During that period, he shot and edited documentary pieces for European television stations including BBC, Channel 4, and Arte, and for American networks ABC and MTV.
Bojtor moved to the U.S. in 1997, and has since shot numerous long-format documentaries for networks including Showtime, National Geographic, Discovery, A&E, AMC and ABC. He has been director of photography for Academy Award nominees Jonathan Stack, and Aviva Slesin. In addition, he has shot numerous short films, and in 2000 shot his first full-length narrative film, "Fixing Frank".
In addition to his accomplishments as a director of photography, Bojtor is an experienced director for works including documentaries for National Geographic and TLC, and IFC's "Film School" series.
Bojtor created and developed the idea for "American Shopper" 8 years ago when he recognized the potential for a new supermarket sport shortly after his arrival in the U.S. "American Shopper" marks his debut as writer and director within the hybrid film genre.
